Health Alert: Overdose Deaths Continue Climbing In The U.S.

Oxycodone and morphine are involved in a majority of the fatalities

If you needed another reminder to be careful about how you take the painkillers prescribed by your doctor, here it is!  Federal official on Tuesday said drug overdose deaths in the U.S. increased for the 11th consecutive year in 2010. The fatalities, most of them from the opioids “oxycodone” and “morphine,” rose 3.6 percent from the previous year. There were 38,329 drug overdose deaths in 2010. Keep in mind, though, that most of these deaths were from prescription drugs. You get them to treat or deal with a legitimate ailment and you end up dependent. So if you think you’re developing a habit or an addiction to an “Rx,” do yourself and your family a favor and get help now. Reach out to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence at 800-NCA-CALL or visit their website. (New York Times)

'Octomom' Goes To Rehab for Xanax Addiction

Three nannies and friends watching her 14 children while she’s away

Nadya “Octomom” Suleman has checked herself into rehab for a prescription drug addition, leaving her brood of young children with nannies for at least a month. Her rep says the 37-year-old checked into the Chapman House Treatment Center last week for “anxiety, exhaustion and stress” linked to an addiction to Xanax. "Ms. Suleman has been taking Xanax that was prescribed by her doctor to deal with her anxiety but she felt she needed a treatment program to help with her recovery," her rep told ABC News. "She will be in treatment for 28 days or more if needed." Suleman is paying for her own treatment, even though the Chapman House offered it to her at no charge. Since infamously giving birth to octuplets in 2009, Suleman has declared bankruptcy, made an adult video and posed semi-nude for a magazine to earn money. (People)
