Website offers pay to settle lawsuit over privacy and marketing

Would you like 10 bucks? Facebook wants to allow its users to apply for a cash payment of up to $10.

The proposal is being made to settle a 2011 class-action lawsuit filed against Facebook over its use of one of the features on the site.

Plaintiffs sued Facebook, arguing that the website's "Sponsored Stories" feature violated California law by publicizing users' "likes" of advertisers without any compensation or a way to opt-out.

As part of the proposed $20 million settlement proposal, Facebook also would agree to give users more control over how their names and pictures are used.

Now it will be up to a judge to decide whether to accept Facebook's proposal.
