Israeli Gunfire Kills 1 Palestinian, Injures 9 Near Border Fence

The shooting is the first violence since a cease-fire agreement signed the day before

Already testing the newly signed cease-fire agreement, Gaza health officials report Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man and wounded nine other people on Gaza's border fence with Israel on Friday. It is the first reported act of violence since the cease fire between Israel and Hamas began a day before.

The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and reporters say it is unlikely to jeopardize the truce between Israeli and Gaza leaders, which was commissioned by Egyptian officials and called for an end to Gaza rocket fire on Israel and Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.

The man killed and the other nine wounded were part of a group that approached Israel's border fence with Gaza to pick up parts of an Israeli army jeep damaged in the fighting, according to Gaza health official Adnan Abu Salmia.

Leading up to the cease fire, the fighting was the bloodiest battle between Israel and Hamas in four years.

Kim Kardashian Tweets About Israel & Palestine, Apologizes

This is why some celebs shouldn't speak on world issues

Speaking on the escalating war between Israel and the Gaza Strip, Kim Kardashian tweeted to her fans on Friday: "Praying for everyone in Israel" and "Praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world!" After receiving enough objection from her followers, however, she deleted the messages and took to her blog to give an explanation: "I want to own up to and explain that earlier today I sent out two tweets about saying prayers for the people in Palestine and Israel and after hearing from my followers, I decided to take down the tweets because I realized that some people were offended and hurt by what I said, and for that I apologize. I should have pointed out my intentions behind these tweets when I posted them. The fact is that regardless of religion and political beliefs, there are countless innocent people involved who didn't choose this, and I pray for all of them and also for a resolution. I also pray for all the other people around the world who are caught in similar crossfires." (Kim Kardashian)

Bombings continued for fifth straight day

Vowing to strike back against targeted attacks on its capitol city, Israel is continuing to bombard the Gaza Strip for a fifth straight day, leveling the Palestinian area from air and sea.

According to sources for Al Jazeera English, at least three children and two women were killed on Sunday. Palestinian officials report that 51 Palestinians, about half of them civilians, including 14 children, have been killed, and hundreds have been wounded.

Hamas and Palestinian forces have also continued to fire rockets into Israel. More than 500 rockets fired from Gaza have hit, killing three civilians and wounding dozens. Police in Tel Aviv reported that two rockets aimed at the commercial hub were shot down by Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system.

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said his country is ready to "significantly expand" its operation against fighters in the Gaza Strip.

"The operation in the Gaza Strip is continuing, and we are preparing to expand it," Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday. The country's cabinet has authorized mobilization of up to 75,000 military reservists.

"We are extracting a heavy price from Hamas and the terror organizations," he said.
