Beloved TV anchor back on air five months after bone marrow transplant

This news might put a tear of joy in your eyes. Just five months after she went through a harrowing bone marrow transplant, thanks to a donation from her sister, ABC anchor Robin Roberts was back on the air Wednesday morning. Roberts said she had been waiting 174 days “to say this, good morning America.” Although she looked thin and had a close-cropped hair-do, Roberts smiled from ear to ear. She was welcomed back in a taped message from President Barack Obama and first lady Michele, as well as from former ESPN colleagues and Magic Johnson. Roberts announced that she will interview Mrs. Obama later this week and it will air next Tuesday. ABC has been in first place in morning news show ratings, overcoming long-time top dogs at NBC’s “Today” show last spring. Make sure you tweet Robin a note of congrats on her return! Robin Roberts Returns to GMA Studio, Shows Signs of Progress

Following a bone marrow transplant, Roberts is expected to transition back to her anchor role.

Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts has returned to the set of Good Morning America for the first time since undergoing a bone marrow transplant in September. It was just last year when she announced to viewers that she had myelodysplastic sysdrome, a rare blood and bone marrow disease. Now, the ABC anchor is making a steady transition back to her role.

“My doctors want me to see how many people I actually come into contact with,” she explained. “My vision is still a little blurry from the treatment. All of this is getting better day by day so that is the next step. Roberts has been off air since the end of August. Her 5 a.m. call time at the studio was the first in a serious of dry runs before making a full return. “I have a date in mind that is very important to me,” she said. “But I will ultimately listen to what my doctors say and what they recommend.” (Entertainment Weekly)

Robin Roberts Recovers From Transplant, Returns To GMA Soon

Tests show no abnormal signs following her bone marrow transplant.

In a surprise video appearance on Good Morning America, news anchor Robin Roberts expressed her plans to return to the morning show after undergoing a bone marrow transplant. She said her recent test showed no abnormal signs.

In June, Roberts was diagnosed with MDS, a bone and marrow disorder. She took medical leave in September to undergo a transplant and has been keeping viewers informed of her recovery.

“I’m coming home,” she said as she gleamed with excitement. “I should be back sometime in February. Now I have a date in mind that’s very personal and very important to me--.” She says she will still follow doctors’ orders and gradually transition back onto the studio couch. Side effects of her treatment still include blurry vision and sensitive skin. Her doctors are also wary that it is currently flu season. “There’s a lot of factors still,” she said. Oprah to Guest Host GMA for Robin Roberts

This will be Oprah's first return to daytime TV since leaving her show last year

Oprah is coming back to daytime - temporarily.

While "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts is recuperating from her bone marrow transplant, the show's viewers will be treated to perhaps the world's most famous guest host. ABC announced that its lineup of substitute hosts includes the queen of daytime television, Oprah Winfrey.

The temporary role will be Winfrey's first return to daytime network TV since the ending of her talk show in 2011.

In addition to Winfrey, Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and others will also be brought onboard to host the show. Interestingly, Winfrey will be going toe-to-toe with best friend Gayle King, who hosts "This Morning" on rival network CBS in the same time slot.
