Why Video Games Make Kids Crazy
An 8-year-old shoots his caretaker, are video games to blame?
Violence in video games returns to hot topics as an 8-year-old child shot and killed his elderly caregiver recently. He had been playing “Grand Theft Auto IV.”
Based on the cult movie “Death Race 2000,” the game ‘Death Race’ was one of the first controversial, violent games. Targets squeal and cry, then tombstones replace them to signify death. National Safety Council labeled it ‘morbid.’
“Mortal Kombat” and “Doom” were the talk of the early 90s in regards to violent video games. With extreme gore of ripping out hearts, ‘Mortal Kombat’ led to the establishment of Entertainment Software Rating.
“Doom” was a regular pastime of the shooters of Columbine High School’s 1999 tragedy, which sparked extreme controversy.
