You're REALLY Basing Your Relationship Hopes on Ice-T and Coco?
Controversial photos strains celeb-reality stars' marriage.
Over the weekend the Internet went crazy when photos of Nicole "Coco" Austin hit the web. No, they weren't pictures of her heavily photographed and usually naked body.
Instead, they were photos of her canoodling with a man who was not her husband, rapper/actor Ice-T.
The "other man" in the photos is Bay Area based rapper/producer AP.9, whom you probably wouldn't know unless you listened to a lot of underground Bay Area rap music. They supposedly hooked up while Coco was out in Las Vegas beginning work as a featured dancer in her own burlesque show, "Peep Show."
Naturally, Ice-T was upset when he saw the photos, prompting him to tweet (and later delete):
"They would take Posed pics every time. Most of them disrespectful and in bad taste. She's made me look.. And feel like s**t."
"Don't get it twisted… I'm not happy about this s**t."
Coco would later hop on Twitter herself to say that she thought AP.9 was a friend of her husband, and that the photos were just silly, harmless photos with a fan. Looks like Coco really loves her fans.
She would also apologize on Twitter saying, "Ice is right, the pics I took with this man were in poor taste & I disrespected my husband however the pics were the only thing that happened."
Naturally, fans of the couple would also voice their opinions on the photos. However, some of the most interesting tweets were ones like these:
If Ice-T & Coco get divorced then I really just give up on ever finding love.— Helen Hemley (@helenhemley) December 9, 2012
Coco f***ing around on Ice-T???? Smh love dead bruh...love is DEAD!!! If they can't make it none of us can...give up hope y'all...— Pierrot (@PraiseJoshGod) December 8, 2012
coco cheated on ice t ....smh. I give up.— Bobby Mercer (@ChayTee) December 8, 2012
Coco cheated on Ice-T? one I hopes it's not true & two it so I give up on love... I really do— Sam Lokner (@SamLokner) December 8, 2012
To their credit, Ice-T and Coco have been married for 11 years, a lifetime by celebrity marriage standards. But, this is no Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee we're talking about here.
Not saying that Coco is a bad person, but the woman is pretty much the equivalent of a soft porn actress. Women in this profession are either looking for attention at all times or attracting it. Sure, we can come up with ways to justify it since she is a "married" woman and her husband
pimps her plays a role in her business affairs, but are we really going to base our relationship hopes on them?
A couple that invites the world and their opinions into their homes on national television every week?
A couple who pretty much handled this entire situation on Twitter before they had a face-to-face conversation with one another about it?
Granted, Ice has dropped monogamous gems like "One down b***h is worth 10 funky hoes" or the more politically correct translation, "Just get one girl and rest your nerves."
But, can we really afford to think that if Ice-T and Coco can't "make it" that love as we know it is a farce? Are there that many broken homes in America?
And maybe the real farce has more to do with money than love. Ice-T and Coco will be celebrating their 12th anniversary on New Year's Eve. Coco's Las Vegas "Peep Show" starts this month. And, after consecutive weeks of a drop-in viewership, the season finale of "Ice Loves Coco" airs on the E! channel this Sunday.
