BREAKING: Million Hoodies March Vigil On Trayvon Martin Anniversary

Organizer says teen’s parents, celebrities expected at the NYC event

Daniel Maree, the young organizer of the "Million Hoodies March," tells Loop 21 that he and lawyers for the parents of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin will hold a candlelight vigil to mark the anniversary of his death on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in New York City.

Although details were still being finalized on Wednesday afternoon, the vigil is scheduled to take place in Union Square, where it was held last year. Trayvon’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracey Martin, are expected at the vigil, Maree says. They are also scheduled to be in Manhattan that morning for TV appearances on NBC’s “Today” show, CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” and ABC’s “The View.”

Last year, the Million Hoodie March was organized by 25-year-old Maree, in response to Trayvon’s death and public outcry due to a lack of charges against his killer, second-degree murder defendant George Zimmerman. Maree’s march drew hundreds of New Yorkers and activists from the tri-state area.
