President Obama’s Plan If Daughters Get Tattoos

President Barack Obama says he hopes his strategy will discourage his girls from getting tattoos

What is the secret to preventing your children from doing something you don’t want them to do? Tell them you’ll do it too.

That’s what President Obama said he will do if his daughters ever say they will get tattoos

In an interview which aired on NBC’s “Today” show, President Obama told Savannah Guthrie that if his daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, get tattoos then he and Mrs. Obama will also get the same tattoo.

“What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decide you’re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo. In the same place,’” said President Obama. “And we’ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo.”

He added, “Our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that somehow that’s a good way to rebel.”

During the interview, President Obama also talked about President George W. Bush’s legacy and the First Lady’s slip on a recent interview where she referred to herself as a single mother.

“As somebody who has stumbled over my lines many times, I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just slips of the tongue,” he said. “There’s no doubt that there have been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom.”

Salute! First Lady Michelle Obama’s 2nd Vogue Cover

Mrs. Obama pushes back against notion that she and the president don’t socialize enough while in town

First Lady Michelle Obama is no stranger to magazine covers. In fact, she’ll cover Vogue magazine for the second time since becoming FLOTUS five years ago. In the April issues, Mrs. Obama pushes back against the notion that she and the president don’t socialize enough in Washington. The first lady says she and President Barack Obama were determined to make sure their daughters, Sasha and Malia, were the priority when they weren’t at work. "The stresses and the pressures of this job are so real that when you get a minute, you want to give that extra energy to your 14- and 11-year-old," she said in the interview, a copy of which was provided to The Associated Press. “Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole.” President Obama, who also sat down with his wife for the Vogue interview, acknowledged that Sasha and Malia have less and less time for their parents. "As I joked at a press conference, now that they want less time with us, who knows? Maybe you'll see us out in the clubs," he said. The April issue of Vogue will hit newsstands on March 26. (AP)

Michelle Obama Doesn't Talk to Daughters "About Weight"

Instead, she focuses on what their bodies can do

Did you join Michelle Obama for her Google+ Hangout on Monday? If not, you missed her talking about her "Let's Move" initiative and her own family's health and habits. "I never talked about weight in the household," the First Lady said. "We just started making changes and we made changes in a way that didn't...make them feel badly about themselves. I make it a point... I don't want our children to be weight-obsessed I want them to be focused on, 'What do I have to do in this body?' Because every body is different." She said the Obama girls get exercise through their many hobbies and sports, and walking the family dog, Bo, after dinner. (Today)

Obama Takes Private Oath with Family, Before Public Celebration

President meets the constitutional deadline for second swearing in

“You didn’t mess up,” first daughter Sasha Obama told her dad, President Barack Obama, who Sunday took the oath of office in a private ceremony with a handful of family members. Only Michelle Obama, holding the Robinson family Bible, and the Obamas’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, stood beside the president at the White House as he recited the 35-word oath. About a dozen other members of the Obama family were off camera, The New York Times reports. The oath was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts, who fours years ago had to administer it twice because he (and Obama) fumbled some of the phrasing. The public will get to see a grander swearing in on Monday, during the inaugural ceremonies. View video of the private ceremony in the player above.

Obama Family Lights National Christmas Tree

President says he hopes this year’s tree fares better than previous spruce

President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and their daughters lit the national Christmas tree Thursday night, dedicating it to the “heroism” of those who persevered through Superstorm Sandy in the northeast last month. "Now, we know that some of our neighbors to the north saw a more ruthless and destructive Sandy. And this holiday season is especially difficult for families who lost everything in the storm," President Obama said. "But it's also a time for us to be grateful for the heroism and perseverance of ordinary men and women in the storm's path who've showed us that Americans will always be stronger than the challenges that we face." Malia and Sasha Obama’s School Evacuated After Suspicious Call

Unattended bag at prestigious private school reported to authorities

The private Washington, D.C. school attended by President Barack Obama’s daughters, Malia and Sasha, was briefly evacuated on Thursday afternoon after officials there received a phone call they considered suspicious. Sidwell Friends, where the 14- and 11-year-old first daughters have attended since they moved to the White House, said students and teachers were returned to class after law enforcement official determined there was no real threat. No details have been released about what the caller said. District of Columbia police also responded to an unattended bag on campus. It did not contain anything harmful. (Associated Press)

Oh My, How Those Obama Girls Have Grown!

From convention to possible re-election, the president's daughters have blossomed into young women

Did you catch the look Sasha Obama served her father, President Barack Obama, when he announced that she and her sister were not excused from school the morning following his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte last week?

Legs-crossed and seated primly between her mother, first lady Michelle Obama, and older sister Malia Obama, the 11-year-old seemed to suck her teeth and roll her eyes before quickly revealing a dazzling smile. Yes, she’s developed a little sass since Americans were first introduced to the Obama girls over four years ago.

(Malia, now 14 years old, is nearly as tall as her father! See how the Obama girls’ have grown in the photo gallery above.)

As they’ve grown, just like first daughters in the last two administrations, the Obama girls have played supporting roles to the very active and public lives their parents lead. Initially shielded from reporters and cameras upon their arrival at the White House, today Malia and Sasha actively participate in White House public events. Both have read to children during the annual Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn and lend their support when their dad pardons a turkey at Thanksgiving.

To avoid the cruelty of tabloids and the occasional scandal – think teenage Chelsea Clinton’s torment over her braces, frizzy hair and freckles, and Jenna and Barbara Bush’s underage drinking controversy – the Obama girls have few avenues that could lead them down the path to trouble.

Their mom prohibits all technology use on school nights. Malia, who was recently given a cell phone, isn’t allowed to use it during the week. The girls can only use computers or watch TV during the week for homework assignments. And Facebook is social media non grata while they are at the White House, according to New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor, who was given access to the White House and the first family for her book, “The Obamas,” released earlier this year. (Michelle Obama disputed some claims about her behavior at the White House during a TV interview with Oprah pal Gayle King.)

Bomb Scare Forces First Lady, Daughters to Exit 'Spider-Man' Play

Man said he had bomb in his luggage, according to the Secret Service.

First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia's trip to see Spider-Man on Broadway in New York City yesterday was interrupted right before it was about to start, according to the New York Daily News.

Before the First Lady and her children arrived at the Foxwoods Theatre, a theatergoer joked that his luggage might blow up.

The joker, identified as Ross Mandel, 43, of Charlotte, North Carolina, didn't know the First Lady and her daughters were attending when he was asked for his bag to be checked.[

“Yeah, I’ll check my bags, but if the show is bad, they’ll blow up,” Mandell said, according to a police source, says the New York Daily News. “It was a stupid thing to say to any cops, but particularly in this case,” the source said.

Nothing was found in the bag.
