With 150 million people checking into their Instagram accounts at least once a month, it would be silly for the free service to not implement advertising.
The favored photo app just turned three years old, which for a tech startup, is exemplary.
At this point, it is time to up the monetary value, and one magic word makes users everywhere cringe a bit similar to Twitter's recent endeavors: Advertising.
Ads are going to start implementing at a snail's pace within the next two months to avoid losing users amidst the change.
With efforts to control the quality and quantity of ads, Instagram hopes to maintain it's likableness and integrity.
With success, Instagram could be looking at more than $400 million yearly with ads in less than five years. It's important to note that Facebook bought Instagram last year for nearly $700 million in stock. That being said, it's already a successful startup.
