A Facebook for Nerds?
Lab rats meet internet junkies! Academia.edu plans to build a Facebook for scientists.
Internet startup Academia.edu is working to combine the social elements of LinkedIn and Facebook to create a professional communication network for scientific researchers.
So far, they're on a roll with $11.1 million raised in the second round of funding.
With an impressive mission to judge the quality of each other's work as well as help researchers share and publish their study results, Khosla Ventures hopped onboard.
Ben Ling of Khosla Ventures is now on the Academia's board of directors, and founder Vinod Khosla will soon be an adviser.
"The goal is to have every single science PDF ever written available for free on the Internet and to build a network of scientists interacting with those papers that will change the face of peer review," as stated in the startup's mission.
