New iPhone Fingerprint Scanner Hacked
It didn't take long for a hacking group in Germany to get past the iPhone 5S fingerprint sensor software.
Otherwise known as Touch ID, the new fingerprint security for the iPhone 5S was available for less than 48 hours when the German group figured out how to hack it.
The group, Chaos Computer Club (CCC), shared their success online on Sept. 21 along with an explanatory video.
CCC spokesperson, Dirk Engling, said that the process wasn't all that challenging, even for a nonprofessional hacker.
"Really, the hardest part was to get our hands on an iPhone 5S because it was sold out," he said.
Robert Graham, a co-creator of a website that gathered $10,000 for the first person to hack Touch ID, said he shouldn't have been surprised it was successfully hacked so fast.
Apple, however, had no comment with regards to this event.
Would you have guessed that hacking Touch ID would happen so quickly?
