Tyra On Firing Longtime 'Top Model' Judges: "Needed a New Boost"

Says we will see judges again, but not on her show

Tyra Banks surprised “America’s Next Top Model” fans when she fired all of the beloved judges that we’ve grown accustomed to watching over the years. Even, the judges themselves were shocked, and because the move seemingly came out of nowhere people wondered if there was some drama behind the scenes.

According to Tyra Banks, there was no drama. She and her business partner just felt that the show needed a boost. She also says that we haven’t seen the last of Nigel Barker and Miss Jay.

An Access Hollywood reporter caught up with Banks on the red carpet at the 2012 Matrix Awards and asked her to explain her actions, here’s what she said:

”We’ve reached a point where we feel that the show just needs a new boost, and there’s a lot of people that go into that decision, and it’s very difficult because I love [Nigel Barker, J. Alexander, and Jay Manuel], and, I mean, they’re my guys. They’ve been there since the beginning of the show. But they’ll still be there because my partner Ken Mok and I, we have projects that we’re developing and we’re a family, so it doesn’t end.”

She also talked briefly about graduating from Harvard and missing her classmates and professors. Watch the clip below:
