Why Will Smith Passed on Tarantino's Anticipated 'Django Unchained' Role
11 months ago
Movie was written for him specifically
Will Smith could have had the title role in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming film "Django Unchained."
In fact, the director wrote the script - about a freed slave-turned-vengeful bounty hunter - with Smith in mind. The actor was informally offered the part last spring.
But, we all know now, due to the recently-released trailer, that the part eventually went to Jamie Foxx.

Here's what Smith had to say about missing out:
"I was in the middle of 'Men In Black 3' and [Tarantino] was ready to go, and I just couldn't sit with him and get through the issues, so I didn't want to hold him up. That thing's going to be ridiculous. It is a genius screenplay."
As much as the kids love the MIB franchise, wouldn't adults have loved to seen Smith as Django? It would have been his first R-rated role since "Bad Boys II."
Either way, Foxx seems to have pulled it off.
